Ever since a few sites mentioned a few months ago that Firefox was getting an improved download manager, I’ve been waiting for it to appear. And waiting. And waiting. With every release it gets pushed back.
I always disliked the separate window for the download manager in Firefox. I used to have the download manager open in a tab. Later on, when the functionality became available, I always kept the manager open as a pinned tab.
Now there’s a better solution, and it’s pretty close to that future default DL manager. For the last few months, I’ve been using an extension called Download on Arrow Panel, which works rather well. There is a bug where you can’t clear your download list with the “clear list” button. Oddly enough, if you have the other download manager extension I linked to above, the clear button works fine. (Plus I still like being able to open the full download manager in a tab when I hit CTRL+J on those occasions I want to see the full list.)
