We dropped by the Doctor Who studio in Cardiff just before The Ponds wrapped on their final episodes to talk with Karen Gillan about Community’s (NBC) Doctor Who-spoof “Inspector Spacetime”.

It turns out she’s a huge fan of both the sitcom and the show within the sitcom. #AmyMeetsAbed

I was just catching up on my feeds in Google Reader, and I saw that Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill are leaving DOCTOR WHO. I really liked them and I’ll be sad to see them go. They are/were certainly the best companions since the show came back in 2005. I definitely prefer the dynamic of the companions being a couple (like the originals, Ian and Barbara) than having the Doctor and companion mooning over each other. Let’s just hope we don’t get two to three seasons of the Doctor moaning about them leaving like we did with (ugh) Rose. Also not too pleased to see in another article about this the additional info that we’re getting yet more River Song. I know I’m in the minority of fandom on this, but I just don’t like that character.

Watched this week’s DOCTOR WHO. Still some unanswered questions and a few observations… 1) Who was the girl? What she is is fairly obvious from the last scene. The fan theory making the rounds is that’s she’s Amy’s daughter and River Song. Which wouldn’t make sense after this episode, since I’m pretty sure if it was River, she’d remember something that traumatic happening to her. 2) Where is the older, dead Doctor’s TARDIS? 3) Is Amy pregnant or not? 4) This is more of a plot logic question? Why didn’t the Silence just kill the Doctor and his friends? Clearly, they’re willing to kill with little provocation or just to make a point. That was established in part one in the bathroom scene. 5) Rory remembers being around for 2,000+ years… so is he human or plastic? 6) What was the deal with the self-repairing space suit? If it is autonomous, why did it snatch up the little girl? 7) Who was in the astronaut suit in the beginning of episode 1? 8) What was that bit with the woman in the disappearing window on the door? “No, I think she’s just dreaming?” That bit didn’t make any sense? 9) What was/are the Silences’ plan/motivation? It all seemed pretty vague to me. (Hey, with the Daleks, we know they want to wipe everything else out.) 10) Why not tell the present Doctor about his future self and fate? It’s very obvious in episode one that future Doctor knew what was going to happen. Some observations… 1) If the Silence have been around for so long, clearly they’ve observed this incarnation of the Doctor as well as the other ten before him. Could there be one stowed away on the TARDIS somewhere? 2) I think we can scratch River Song being the Doctor’s daughter (or a regeneration of the 10’s clone daughter), or his granddaughter, Susan off the list of possibilities. Unless Moffat is going for some sort of creepy Luke and Leia thing. 3) Did Amy and Rory wear the same clothes for three months? At least River changed her outfit. 4) That River falling into the TARDIS bit was dire, very cartoonish. There’s probably more, but that’s all I can think of for right now. I suppose I’ll re-watch the episode tonight when it airs over here on BBC America.
